sea shepherd actualy did that as publicity stunt to get attention from the media and other people. because the more people that know the more apposed to the illigal activities by the japanese.

They were not “taken hostage” but rather they were taken into custody by the ship because they had committed a very severe crime in international waters and the ship had no choice but to bring them to port to stand trial in a court of law.

Considering that Sea Sheppard engages in what can be seen as piracy and something which borders on an act of war (attacks on a merchant or civilian vessel in international waters) you have lost all protection afforded a vessel flying a sovern flag and are fair game to be taken into custody or to be attacked by a military vessel defending the rights and safety of a merchant under attack.

Personally, I’d like to see this terrorist operation get a nice fat torpedo in its side.
