Naked and Famous Denim

On February 22, dutil. launched Montreal’s Naked and Famous Denim line in Western Canada with an evening soiree at that attracted the masses. Droves of young denim aficionados flocked to dutil.’s small W. Cordova retail location for a night of drinks, eats and music, keeping the party at maximum capacity the entire night.

Naked and Famous Denim is “the all-raw-all-Japanese-all-cheap” line by designer Brandon Svarc, who took cues from popular lines like A.P.C. and Cheap Monday to create simple raw denim styles for men and women that are free of branding or elaborate trimmings. Fabric is imported from a highly-regarded denim mill in Japan, but the jeans themselves are manufactured in Canada and available at surprisingly reasonable prices. The name Naked and Famous is intended to poke fun at “glamour” brands that sell cheap cookie-cutter denim at astronomical prices “simply because Jessica Simpson wears them.” The premise of this line is simple: no gimmicks, just the best fabrics in the world available in a few modern fits. Naked and Famous has even developed their own silk denim, which blends cotton with 30% silk for a unique and luxurious result. When personality is inherent in the denim itself, it becomes clear that embellishments are entirely unnecessary. Naked and Famous Denim is available in Vancouver at dutil. (303 W. Cordova)
