Gravity Pope Tailored Goods

The Gravity Pope Tailored Goods clothing store opened early September right next to the shoe mecca in the heart of Kitsilano. With a successful Tailored Goods location up and running in Edmonton, it was only a matter of time before Vancouver got in on the fashion action. We spoke with Peter Turner, the designer responsible for the look of the Gravity Pope stores, about his vision for the new retail space. Shoppers experience a combination of new and old elements, “French modern with a twist.”

Turner emphasizes that the Tailored Goods space is not a twin to the shoe store, but the soft feminine style is surely complimentary. Between the hand-cut white carrara marble floors and soft green/blue walls a circular theme emerges: a large round floor table is illuminated by a circular collection of original 1910 Parisian lighting, the cash desk takes on a semi-circular form and the back wall features mounted dish-shaped lights varying in size. Change-rooms were crafted out of wavy 1950’s fluted glass, standing 9 feet tall and fronted with mirrored doors. And those aren’t the only remarkable features in store: refurbished antique chairs and a unique 1920’s tear-shaped disco ball offer plenty to adore among tidy racks of must-have clothing for both men and women. Rejuvenate your wardrobe with lines like Jovovich-Hawk, Forte Forte, Cheap Monday, Rodejber, Won Hundred and Stella McCartney – and come full circle as classic meets modern on 4th Ave this season.
