(212) SS09 Preview Fashion Show

The (212) spring/summer 2009 preview show was held at Heritage Hall on Tuesday, November 4th to a select industry crowd who whet their whistles with Russell Beers, Yellow Tail Wines and Voss Waters until the much-anticipated show began.  Designer Anthony Castro and store partner Scott Walhovd presented a well-received collection:

tonal star butterfly sleeve top; pleated trouser pant; ultra suede scrunch belt

The designs remained casual but as a whole seemed to have graduated since previous seasons – I think it could be the colour palette they opted for, which was very warm and subdued compared to some prior collections.  This muted colour was a major factor towards my feeling that the line had matured (however I did love one pretty flowery print they used), and the fabrics resonated this carefree quality that conjured up the kind of beautiful summer day where you can jump effortlessly from doing nothing to everything in an instant.

Toyo Tschuyia styled the show – there wasn’t a model without the hem of her pants rolled up, so take notice if you haven’t already seen this trend splashed across celebrities everywhere (I don’t read those rags, I swear).  Heart-shaped bedazzled sunglasses = your call.

A number of people were talking about this piece after the show – I was on board, but would roll up the hem to knee-length.  I was really fond of all the pleats, both here and in the white trousers above – this must be a shout-out to “New York’s 1989 synth-pop-rock artistry,” one of the proclaimed inspirations behind this collection.

Scott and Anthony have picked up a sales rep in New York and a gaggle of new retailers.  They’ve received lots of local press for their achievements, and now after just a year the rest of North America is starting to take notice.
