We just finished shooting the catalogue images for the larry. FW 2010/11 collection yesterday, and like some kind of serendipity a video from our campaign/lookbook shoot from last month at Sugar Studios made its way into the public realm.
This is my friend Chase. Chase is soon to depart for a one year long trek which will take him through Tokyo, Osaka, Okinawa, HK and Shanghai over the course of a year – and while he’s there he’s going to keep us on top of the best in Japanese fashion. I consider him to be one of the most capable people I know to embark on this mission.
I hope you enjoy this additional gift: I’ve asked him to continue to submit photos of him eating breakfast, along with any other amazing images he finds relevant. In true Karate Kid spirit he agreed because, “I say, you do, no questions.”
Safe travels and fine fashion finds to you, young grasshopper.
All remaining FW09 stock will be offered at 25% off retail. Scented soy “larry. will keep you warm” candles are on sale for $15. And we’re giving away a CRAVE Vancouver book with every purchase (while supplies last).
If I could seriously consider going back to school (and fashion school, at that) it would have to be somewhere that specialized in knitwear, and Central St Martins College of Arts in London is one of the best. Here are a few of my daily design inspirations from CSM graduates of years past, as I power on with sketching out the next LARRY. collection…
could be interesting to play with this concept using large knitwear panels
looped ruffles
enough said
now try that with yarn
i’ve already sketched out a knit skirt that looks similar to the tops of these shorts
more panels
And the flurry of design continues! If anyone knows of other schools that specialize in knitwear I’d love to hear about it.
You can’t do a movie about Joan Jett and The Runaways without mastering the smoky eye, and Make Up For Ever has the tools you need to pull it off perfectly, and a step-by-step video for those like me who can’t do my own eye make-up to save my life. The movie, starring Kristen Stewart, is on the verge of release and simply by entering your name and contact details you could win a trip to NYC in March for the premiere – takes two seconds, well worth a potential trip to one of my favourite cities.
Obakki‘s F/W 2010 video lookbook was released this week, and it’s edgy as all hell. Previous Obakki campaigns evoked romance, softness, and nostalgia for me – so this campaign is not only a far departure, but a full turnaround from those sentiments. It’s hard, edgy, and dark, and leaves me clamouring for a shot of Jameson’s and a cigarette.
This video bleeds visuals that are quintessentially Vancouver: a coy couple hiding in a dark narrow bar flirting over whiskey, trudging through construction-filled streets and traipsing across bridges, topping it all off with a bonfire at my favourite park in the city. That could spell any night of the week in my books. The Obakki Man is a bearded hunk in leather (check) and the Obakki Woman is independent and coarsely feminine.
With beautiful S/S 2010 pieces arriving in the flagship Obakki store in Gastown now, it’s almost a shame we have to wait a whole season to get our hands on more winter wares. But who am I kidding, that means we have an entire summer to keep ourselves occupied. If this video is any indication, I can safely predict that a steadfast combination of Obakki, whiskey and rock’n'roll will factor in to my own adventures.
