Dino Pessione, who owns the shop with his wife Neda and sister-in-law Lita Adampirae, started thinking about opening a quality Swedish imports leather shop years ago while visiting family in Sweden. For a month he watched his brother-in-law, Hamid Adampirae, make custom leather shoes by hand, and they began talking about bringing the shoes to Canada. Hamid runs a 15-year old shoe shop with two others in the small town of Hedemora, about 4 hours north of Stockholm, and the business gained a strong reputation after constructing a custom pair of leather shoes for the King.

The Whistler Film Festival (Nov 29-Dec 2) is a 4-day flurry of films, workshops, parties, and more films. But this year there was an exciting new development on the roster, as three British Columbia filmmakers took part in the inaugural BC Stories short film commissioning program, a joint initiative between the WFF and Telefilm. The program provides training, mentorship and commissions to create short films that represent the spirit of British Columbia and the four Olympic pillars of culture, education, environment and/or sport. I had the opportunity to talk with the filmmakers about their exciting BC Stories projects.

Loving the new window display at Obakki, these uniform plastic pieces catch the light beautifully.

Great time up at the WFF again this year. Left on Friday and the weather was nice, I thought I had read that it would be clear all weekend so we packed up the car with our regular ol’ tires, unaware of the blizzard that would start Saturday night and continue through Sunday.
Stayed at the Adara, a small boutique hotel right off the Village Square, and we were blown away – very friendly staff, great decor and environment, and super dog-friendly. I don’t think I’ll ever stay anywhere else in Whistler now if I can help it, I loved this place.
