Long Weekend Thrifting

Again to the thrift store in Steveston, where everything is just a couple of dollars.  I found this great coral dress, it reminds me of an old nurse’s uniform – and if I go to the Steveston Salmon Festival, I may just wear this!  It ties up in the back, which adds some necessary definition around the waist line:

Then this white jumpsuit, which looks like another kind of uniform – a mechanic’s.  It looks cute and very Fara Fawcett 70’s with the legs rolled up to the knee, but I think I might hem the legs and make them into shorts.  Opinions?

My mom stopped at the antique store next door to pick up a table, and I saw this old wooden chest and shrieked a little bit.  It was beyond my budget and mumsies knows I have been after a beautiful old chest for a while, so she made this my Christmas present (Christmas in July, indeed.)  It has little hidden wheels, which I might actually remove because they are very stiff and squeaky – not of much use, as the chest is very lightweight:

This will house all of my knitting gear.  It took me an entire day to rearrange the furniture in our house in order to make room for this new addition, and I like where it is but we’ll need a very large piece of art to put above it.

Force Four Looking for Stylist

A producer at Force Four asked me to forward this on to my readers, so here you are!

SEEKING DYNAMIC STYLIST TO CO-HOST TELEVISION SERIES!
Award-winning production company Force Four Entertainment is seeking an ENERGETIC STYLIST to co-host their new national television series for the W Network. The series is based on the principles of Personal Branding and titled THE REAL YOU.  Force Four has over 24 years of experience creating lifestyle and documentary programming.

In each episode of THE REAL YOU, our DYNAMIC STYLIST works with a Personal Branding Expert, and comes to the rescue of a woman who is unhappy with her life and stuck in a rut. Our INSIGHTFUL STYLIST helps clients transform from the inside out by creating a personal style for women based on their authentic selves.  Our EXPERT STYLIST help clients discover and ultimately live their true style while teaching the skills necessary for women to achieve their newly defined look.

The series involves a compelling Canadian CO-HOST who:
•       Is a professional stylist.
•       Has the experience and tools needed to help women discover their true style.
•       Is comfortable using women’s true passions, talents and desires to achieve an individual style or “brand package” that represents who that woman truly is.
•       Can think “outside the box,” is energetic and extremely creative.

‘THE TRANSFORMATION’
This series is based on the concept of Personal Branding. Living one’s brand is challenging – it could mean discovering that the life one is living, the job one is holding, and the values one has been aspiring to, are completely wrong for them. In the end the subject may discover that her current job is not at all what her inner self desires.  She discovers talents she never knew she had.  She finds a style that reveals her true image.  She may even decide to find a new man – one who brings out the best in her.

The EXPERT STYLIST is not afraid to tell it like it is. The STYLIST believes that people should not conform to expectations, but instead can draw out each woman’s inner passions and truth to create a look that is perfect for her.  The STYLIST is not afraid to break conventional fashion rules to achieve this.

Events You Must Attend

The Art of Giving show at Orb Gallery sends 20% of silent auction proceeds to a charity of your choice.  And will probably be less of a terror than the Cheaper Show, which I hear was a little too busy.  Our man Kris Krug has 5 photos showing, and one (or all) of them could be yours!

Also tonight is the Life is a SKIM beach fashion show at the Lotus Sound Lounge.  “The show will feature the essentials for an eco-friendly skim summer, including the latest bikes from Ride On Again and skimboards from industry leader Four Skims.  Models will showcase the gear wearing skim-friendly bikinis from various designers like Sooke’s Dewar Couture, industry standard Cuché, new local favorite Carney Love and DVLP shorts from Pacific Boarder. Downtown Betty’s hand silk-screen printed skimboard bags will round out the west coast feel of the show as the perfect skim beach accessory.”  All proceeds go to the Surfrider Foundation and Living Oceans Society, two very worthy causes.  Entry is just $5.

(212) Anniversary Party

One of the best new boutiques in Gastown, (212), celebrates a year of business with a swanky little party tonight! Drop by, enjoy a glass of wine, and shop your heart away. I imagine there will be a special anniversary sale for all the loyal customers who show up as well – and if you’ve never yet been to (212), tonight’s the night!

Pender Island and Nu To You Haul

Spent a nice weekend on Pender Island to try and find some solid ground after a shaky week – I hadn’t ever been and it’s so beautiful. On Saturday we went to the weekly artisan’s market and picked up some fresh cakes and local goat’s cheese, browsed through pottery and jewelry, and I got these two beautiful spinning tops from some local wood turners:

The one on the left is juniper wood and has beautiful colours, and I think the striped one is fir. Later in the afternoon I went by Nu To You, the island’s thrift store, and found a whole load of goods for only $10.75: Nine West sandals, 2 dresses, 4 shirts, a mug and some knitting needles. The dresses need to be altered a bit and some of the items have tough (but minor) stains that I will have to work at – here are two of the tops:
