BC Fashion Week kicked off yesterday at Vancouver’s Chinese Cultural Center with the Jacqueline Conoir Collection show, presented to a crowd of hundreds.  Designer RozeMerie Cuevas extended her 20-year success story into yet another season with an extensive spring/summer 2009 collection, although she didn’t stray far from her trademark formula.

Primetime Emmy’s 2008: Trend Report

The 2008 Primetime Emmy Awards took place on September 21, and while the show itself may have been a bit of a bore the red carpet provided plenty of material to ogle.

As we switch gears into Fall, formal and full-length gowns graced the stars at LA’s Shrine Auditorium.  Notable trends include bright and bold colours, loose “bed-head” hair, and strapless gowns.

Canary yellow, bright fuschia, royal purple and bright reds were big colours on stars like Nicollette Sheridan, Holly Hunter, Brooke Shields, Mariska Hargitay, Teri Hatcher, Saffron Burrows, Laura Dern and Melora Hardin – even Jimmy Kimmel sported a bright blue tie.

Armani Breaks No-Fur Promise

Armani’s unveiling of his new collection at Milan Fashion Week has many people up in arms, as the designer pledged last year that he would stop using fur in his designs.

“Last year Armani told Time magazine that PETA had convinced him to drop fur from his collection. But he clearly had a change of heart because his new collection includes fur coats for babies, floral-printed fur coats, fur-hemmed skirts and fur-trimmed jackets.

“We feel betrayed. I have met with Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and many other designers who once used fur but had a change of heart, and not one of them broke their promise,” PETA President Dan Mathews said.”

Pamela Anderson, an avid PETA supporter (I onced worked wardrobe on a film with her and we had to be very diligent with the extras – no one on set was allowed to wear leather or fur), is reportedly going to urge stars not to attend Armani’s shows and lead a counter-attack against the Italian designer.

Fur coats for babies?  That’s not only a slap in the face to PETA, but to Giorgio Armani’s own dignity.
