The folks from the newly launched Worship Museum had a little kick-off studio sale just down the block from me over the weekend, and there were lots of little treasures to be found. While much of the product I spied this weekend isn’t yet up online, I’m sure they’ll be updating regularly with new additions.

David Yochim’s drawings (above) remind me a bit of Chad VanGaalen’s animations, what with all the hands growing from unlikely places. Drawing should never go out of style; I aim to start investing in some quality hand-sketched goods to adorn my walls. My neighbour, who happens to be an editor for online arts rag Skewed Magazine, is excellent at leaving me delightfully weird gifts like this.

I picked up this wicked little tank from The Black Cat Audition with all sorts of magical things on it. Asking people which one of the pictures they would get tattooed on themselves has proved to be a fun little game (me: the quill and ink…though the magnet is a tempting second choice). Am now seriously considering getting one of these little iconic gems actually tattooed on myself.

Great jewelery from Sleep Standing Up (pictured above) and Anita Sikma was available at the sale as well – I would have purchased pieces from both of these talented designers if my wallet had allowed for it!

And finally, what’s a shopping excursion without the perfect bag…Ora Recycled Leather Bags convert used leather garments into fashionable and practical satchels. I’m slightly obsessed with the Bobby Bag, pictured above.
Keep your eyes on The Worship Museum for great gifts and knick-knacks weaned from the calloused hands of some of Vancouver’s most talented creators.

5 local designers will be at the Velvet Room Boutique in Kerrisdale tonight to showcase some of their latest creations. Enjoy wine, music and 100% Canadian fashion while taking advantage of this unique opportunity to interact with the designers, pick their brains, and even give feedback on some of their designs.
Lincoln from fiveleft leather will have his latest city tote in tow (I absolutely LOVE this bag – it’s pretty much perfect in every way) and also another concept piece which he’d like some feedback on. Naomi Evans, Coral Moon Designs, Christina Lazar-Schuler, and Street Cat Designs are the other 4 artists that will be featured.

12 local artists will be at the MBody Fitness and Wellness Spa in the Pacific Palisades hotel this Friday and Saturday. A portion of all sale proceeds will benefit the Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation. Shop for jewelry, skincare lotions, greeting cards, and larry. scarves! You can also enjoy wine (by donation), food and chocolate, and a poolside massage for a discounted price. There will be raffle prizes as well, and if you’re shopping for Christmas gifts there will be a free gift wrap service.
Swing by on Friday from 5-9pm or Saturday from 12-4pm at 1277 Robson (@ Jervis), and check out the Faceboko page for Bling here.
See you there! Do it for the kids!

My girl Nikki from Dominic Designs just relaunched her site, and it’s all shiny and new with some great new photographs (you might recognize one of the models). To celebrate, you can enjoy 25% off all online orders until the end of July.
Nikki uses beautiful reclaimed wood and leather offcuts within her collection, so you can reassure yourself that you’re making an eco-minded choice when you shop Dominic. I am a huge fan of the Dominique earrings and matching necklace (wear mine all the time). Nikki mixes and matches her chains and wood, so I actually have a few of the same styles in various colours since I love them so!

This weekend the bi-annual FAB Fair hits Heritage Hall, with 45 local accessories designers under one roof! You’ll find jewelry, bags, scarves, hats, belts and more this Saturday and Sunday. Don’t miss it, I always find lots of pretty inexpensive goods at this show. Plus, my accessory collection is pathetic so I must seize every opportunity to expand.

I just checked in at The Ongoing Project blog and found out about this fantastic exhibit which opens tonight from 7-9pm. The Movers and Shapers show was started by Cause + Affect as a response to the lack of public attention to Canadian design work, and showcases the top artists (established and emerging) in architecture, interior, graphic, product, furniture, fashion, and interactive design. The 2008 exhibit will feature artists from the previous two shows in 2004 and 2007 – many of those emerging designers have since skyrocketed to international acclaim, which is a great testament to the importance of featuring such works in a public forum.
See works tonight by Propellor, Mono, Mandula, Bricault Design, Free Agency Creative, Red Flag Design, Urthwurks, D’Arcy Jones Design, LWPAC, BurnKit, Nico Spacecraft, This Is It. Design, Omer Arbel, Alicia Grunert, BattersbyHowat, Subplot Design, Modern Domestic Textiles, Molo, Pyrrha Design, and Cause + Affect. The exhibit runs at the Vancouver Museum from April 24 – June 22.
Thanks for posting on this Shay!
