Eco Fashion Week Vancouver: Wrap Up

Another installment of Eco Fashion Week presented by Aveda just wrapped up yesterday here in Vancouver, and coming from a position of enduring years of shoddily patched-together productions from other would-be organizations (I’m talking about you, Vancouver Fashion Week), it was such a relief to see this event come together in such a well-organized fashion.

Held at the beautifully restored Salt Building in the Olympic Athlete’s Village, shows took place over three days and were capped off by a trade show and free conference sessions.

My lovely friend Kim Cathers of kdon was a highlight with her Suture collection:

How much do I want those hand-dyed leggings? Amazing – looks like some mish-mash of fire, bone and smoke.  She also showed some deconstructed/studded/draped sweaters that I am most certainly going to get my hands on.

Loved this dress from The Battallion:

Some pieces from my larry. collection also snuck in on a couple of runway looks – here’s one from Sitka‘s show:

…and another from We3 Designs:

Thanks to Eco Fashion Week and all of the sponsors for providing a platform for designers to showcase their work in Vancouver – here’s to looking forward to the next season.

larry. designs: lobird road collection presentation

Been working hard on putting this show together, and I’m so very excited for this Saturday.  My current larry. designs collection will be presented, a capsule collection of jewelry pieces that I have been working on with Zula Designs will be on display, and Bienvenido Cruz (who shot our lookbook and did our promotional videos) will be putting up some photo and video works.  Previous season pieces will also be available for sale so come check that out too.

Knit Inspiration: Rag & Bone, Pringle, Malandrino

First up Rag & Bone RTW 2010:

bulky knit layers, strung gloves around the neck – through the arm holes would have been much too childish.

belted scarf, yes.

i have been trying to solve this muff problem for a while. they’re great but you have to hold on to them, which is a drag.  Rag & Bone does the muff necklace, brilliant.

On the topic of muffs, these wrist cuffs by Pringle of Scotland are in the same vein:

And lastly, Malandrino:

that purse is amazing.  I am really onto the concept of doing yarn fringes in my upcoming collection.

so badass.

Central Saint Martins in London

If I could seriously consider going back to school (and fashion school, at that) it would have to be somewhere that specialized in knitwear, and Central St Martins College of Arts in London is one of the best.  Here are a few of my daily design inspirations from CSM graduates of years past, as I power on with sketching out the next LARRY. collection…

could be interesting to play with this concept using large knitwear panels

looped ruffles

enough said

now try that with yarn

i’ve already sketched out a knit skirt that looks similar to the tops of these shorts

more panels

And the flurry of design continues!  If anyone knows of other schools that specialize in knitwear I’d love to hear about it.
