Off to New York for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

Yep that’s right kids – I am teaming up with Shallom from Stylefinds and Mr. Kris Krug (you’ve seen his photos splashed all over The Conveyor Belt, in addition to magazines, websites, the world) to cover the events at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NY in February.

We’ve already secured office space for the week at East Media, just blocks away from Bryant Park.  Place for us to work = daily coverage of fashion shows and our silly antics in the big city.

Watch out for lots of cool developments in the coming month leading up to our adventure.  You can keep track of our daily plans for NYFW by following us on Twitter – really, we can hardly shut up about it.

Amy Winehouse: Fashion Designer For Fred Perry?

Yet another rumour out of the celebrity designer mill, this time concerning troubled singer Amy Winehouse and a possible collaboration with designer Fred Perry:

According to the tabloids, the Rehab singer let slip during a festive holiday that she is currently in negotiations with iconic British label Fred Perry and has already started sketching out a few of her ideas.

My jaw dropped at first, too, but could Winehouse actually have something valuable to contribute to the fashion world?  A number of people seem to think so: Karl Lagerfeld built upon the Winehouse style for the Paris-Londres Metiers d’Art Chanel collection in 2007; cobbler Jonathan Kelsey crafted the ‘Amy’ stiletto in her name; and Roberto Cavalli declared the singer a fashion icon due to her unique look.  Um, yeah…a 2-foot high beehive is unique, that’s for certain.

Let’s just hope the Winehouse coiff doesn’t become one of the emblematic features of this forthcoming collection.

Gastown Christmas Shop Hop 2008

The shop hop is back!  Some of the best retailers in Gastown are keeping their doors open late this Thursday, November 27th and offering special pre-Christmas discounts for one night only.  Use the map to plot your course, and flit about from shop to shop like you’re on a little treasure hunt.  Most places should have a nice glass of wine or other complimentary beverage for you to enjoy upon arrival, and Rogers Chocolates will be offering up some free chocolate tasters as well.

One of a Few, Two of a Few, Roden Grey, Bruce Eyewear, John Fluevog, Illustrated Example, Rogers Chocolates, Hunt & Gather, Urbanity, (212), Dream, the Block, Nouvelle Nouvelle, Mandula, Obakki, White Rabbitt, Mooncruise Gallery, Rubi + Rino, Ric Yuenn and Dutil will all be open from 5-10 PM with extra special discounts for their extra special shop hoppers.

Wear your warm cozies and a comfy pair of shoes!  This event has been a smash success in recent seasons and will surely be busy again this year.  I’d recommend a whiskey flask in your pocket to keep you nice and toasty from the inside out, but that’s just me.

Michael Mann is making fun of me for having a crush on a vampire.  My teenage buddy may have been a dork, but vampires are so hot right now.

Pemberton Music Festival

This amazing event was just recently announced and the lineup is both extensive and impressive:

Coldplay, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Nine Inch Nails, Jay-Z, The Tragically Hip, The Flaming Lips, Serj Tankain, Death Cab For Cutie, Interpol, My Morning Jacket, Sam Roberts Band, Metric…

Black Mountain, Vampire Weekend, The Crystal Method DJ Set, DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist, Booka Shade, Junkie XL, Dave Seaman, Wintersleep, Buck 65, Secret Machines, Sia, MSTRKRFT, Deadmau5, Brazillian Girls, MGMT, The Fiery Furnaces…

Mates of State, Grand Ole Party, Carolina Liar, The Airborne Toxic Event, Monte Negro, Low Vs Diamon, Annie Stela, M.A.N.D.Y., Tommie Sunshine, Chromeo, 3OH!3, Kevin Shiu…plus Timeline, and Tony Pantages!

Pemberton is so beautiful and I love taking relaxing weekend trips to the Pemberton Valley Lodge. I planned to book a room at the lodge for this festival, but I heard that there will likely be no in/out privileges! That means no checking out one band in the morning, taking off back to the lodge for a hot tub and returning for an evening show…however, there will be “5 star camping” on site (I think that means there will be showers).

Head to www.pembertonfestival.com for ticket and event details.

**EDIT** You can go on and off site. Or in and out if you prefer. Woohoo!
