Always good for a good time, great bargains, plus wine and snacks! Plus the weather in April is delightful for an evening stroll through Gastown. So many amazing boutiques within a 3 block radius.
Don’t miss it!
For those of you in Vancouver, you may have noticed that over the holidays Obakki pledged to donate one warm jacket or blanket to a local shelter for every in-store purchase – but now that the madness of Christmas and the New Year is over, the giving doesn’t have to stop there. Obakki Creative Director and Owner Treana Peake has long been an advocate of human rights and other humanitarian efforts, and has personally traveled to Africa a number of times (read Treana’s blog entries on her most recent trip here.) The Obakki Foundation was borne of these ventures, and a new fashion collection reflects some of the poignant answers children in orphanages gave when Treana asked them three basic questions: What makes you happy? What makes you sad? What makes you afraid?

There are a number of ways to support the foundation: you can purchase clothing or accessories at the flagship store in Gastown or online (women’s, men’s, and children’s items available); you can make a monetary donation through the store or online; or you can purchase a pre-packaged first aid or school kit.

100% of all proceeds go directly back to Foundation projects. A shipping container is being sent from Canada to Africa in a few weeks time, so move fast! Treana is traveling back to Cameroon in May to personally distribute these supplies to where they are needed most.
This one is epic. If you missed the last Obakki sample sale a few seasons back, you probably heard about it and kicked yourself in the teeth for not going. $800 jackets were no more than $50, mens shirts that retailed for $300 were a mere $10, and don’t even get me started on the womens wear. Suffice it to say that I came out of the last sale with a new wardrobe – and so did my then-boyfriend and all of my brothers.
I have it on good authority that remaining items from all previous seasons will be included in this sale, and there is a ton of stock to purge. Leather jackets for $100, coats $80, dresses $50, and tons more great deals.
Sale runs today (Friday December 5th) 11-8 and tomorrow from 11-7 at the Obakki retail store, 44 Water St. in Gastown.
Last Thursday Obakki hosted their invite-only, bi-annual fashion show for Vancouver’s top fashion insiders, stylists, designers, photographers, writers, models…you get the idea. The show was held at Obakki’s retail location in Gastown, with chairs spanning the length of the space – which just this year won an award for the beautiful architectural design. The Vancouver designed and manufactured label is making major grounds in North American retail markets, so it will be exciting to see how this homegrown talent dominates in coming seasons as the design team continues to hit target after target.
There were so many pieces I liked, so you’ll have to click through for all the photos!
Obakki is having a stellar sale on all their brand new Fall/Winter 2009 merchandise this weekend – if you make a donation to the food bank, either in the form of cash or a non-perishable food item brought to the store, you get 25% off regular priced garments. Also, all bags and some jewelry are discounted at 50% off right now.
Above: beautiful green angora coat, you have to feel it to believe it. There are some great holiday dresses to be had as well.
Sale is in effect as of today and lasts until Obakki closes on Monday at 6pm.
All men’s and women’s clothing discounted 75% – excludes accessories and jewelery.
I found out that Obakki won’t be having another warehouse sale for some time, this is it. I finally scored the leather bomber jacket I’ve been coveting for months (original price = $780, sale price = $195), and there’s plenty of other great items in store. Look for the wool jacket with epaulets, wide leg pants with cuff, deep v neck shirt, and leggings.
Happy shopping!
