Don’t miss the 888 Roller Disco Party in Strathcona today, beginning at 3pm. Arrive in anything on wheels – skates, bicycle, skateboard, you’re even dared to bring your tractor – and dressed in your finest 1970′s/1980′s roller disco attire.
I think I am going to wear this ‘mechanic’ outfit - I chopped the legs off and will just roll up the hem to the knee. Although it’s not your typical roller disco party attire, it is blinding white and very 70′s, so I think it’s appropriate enough, especially with Farrah hair. We’ll see what other costume options I come up with before 3pm though!
BBQ runs all evening (3pm-sunset), and there’ll also be a lemonade stand. Ask for the special jug.
DJs: Paul Devro, Erik Devereux, Warm It Up Chris, Logan Internet, Leigh Christie, The Stunt Man, and P Pat P Pat.
Strathcona Park, 857 Malkin Avenue (@ Hawks Avenue), 3pm-10pm

We hosted THE RED PARTY at our pad over the weekend for my birthday. I am a huge fan of colour parties – you get all the fun of dressing up without ridiculous themes like “Trailer Trash” or whatever people come up with these days. Last July we had the legendary black and white party for a triple birthday – the reprisal is so far a toss up between B/W: part 2 or the plaid party…unless anyone has more ideas?

Long weekend Monday, and after a bottle of wine at the Cascade Lounge Carleen and I were itching for something to do. Back home to Gastown, so the Lamplighter for a game of pool was top priority. Turns out it’s hip hop night on Monday, and as we entered we were urged to buy 50/50 tickets. I am the ultimate sucker for 50/50, so Carleen and I split the bill of $5 for 3 tickets and kept our fingers crossed. I had a good feeling.

3 games of foosball (I dominated) and 2 games of pool (Carleen dominated) later, the lights were on. My intuition held fast and we won the 50/50; a paltry $20, but better than a kick in the pants. Plus a t-shirt and 2 CD’s. If only we had been at GM place during a Canucks game – something in the neighbourhood of $15,000 would have been just dandy.

Flaming Angels Boutique opens tonight for a full 3-day launch celebration at The Fall. The store will offer clothing for men and women, custom corsetry, gifts for children, home decor and accessories – all with a “distinctive and sinfully enticing” quality for Vancouver’s alternative style lovers. Flaming Angels designer Miriam Melanson has been producing edgy but fun designs since 2000, and is teaming up with Carola Goetze to open this retail location.
Shopping, fashion, dancing, entertainment and “non-stop mischief for three days and two nights” begins today at 9pm at The Fall (644 Seymour), and don’t miss the fashion show at 10pm.

ION Magazine is celebrating 5 successful years with a party, with kick-ass tunes by DJs VNDLSM, Trevor Risk and Tyler Fedchuk. Sure to be a fun and fashionable affair – you would be silly to miss this occasion. If you don’t already have a ticket, arrive early as there should be a limited number available at the door for just over $10. See you there!

Hotbox Accessories is having a slumber party, and they’re daring you to bare on this chilly Vancouver eve. Lucky for you the storefront is an intimate venue, so you should have no trouble saddling up to the patron behind you in your skivvies. Aside from girls and boys in their drawers, you’ll find a DJ, installation fashion show (whatever that means? I think they have models who stand outside in their lingere, if it’s anything like the last soiree they had – brr!). And this is sure to cause a few fender benders: Burlesque Models from Cara Milk and Cherry on Top from Sweet Soul will be having a pillow fight on the sidewalk, so don’t miss that spectacle.
Starts at 6pm, fashion installation at 7pm, plus cheap $3 drinks and music all night long. Admission is free! 2560 Main St.
