Vancouver’s Epic Fashion Blogger Clothing Sale is ON

We did it once a few months ago to wild reviews, satiating the thrifty and sartorial desires of our loyal readers and friends, and now we’re doing it again even bigger and badder.

July 25th at the Grace Gallery on Main & 3rd in Vancouver, mark your calendars and tell your friends because it will likely be another few months before this epic sale happens again.

Stay tuned for photos over the next week of my personal stash, a sneak peek at just a sliver of what will be available at the sale for dirt cheap prices.

Vancouver’s Most Epic Clothing Sale

It finally feels like summer, the sun is shining in Vancouver, and The Conveyor Belt has teamed up with Stylefinds to bring you an amazing clothing sale.  Many of our readers know that we are in the early stages of launching an online store to redistribute the wealth of thrift store finds and vintage goods we’ve acquired over the years, at incredibly affordable prices. And next Saturday, that store will come to life for one day only.

Our live, in-person sale will be held at the Grace Gallery to kick off the summer season, and we’ll pass along the great deals we’ve scored in our vintage-shopping adventures.  All of the remaining items in the Conveyor Belt and Stylefinds store will be available, but those pieces are just the tip of the iceberg – we haven’t had time to photograph the mounds of other goodies we’ve been storing.  You’ll find clothes of every variety, shoes, purses, accessories, and more.

I’ve posted this way in advance because you too can sell your clothes at the sale, just get in touch with me for more details – terri[at]theconveyorbelt.com.  We are more than happy to provide a platform for other people to sell their quality clothes at affordable prices.

We Have a Thrift Store!

We’re still in the very early development stages, but Shallom of Stylefinds (and my partner in crime during NYFW and many other fashionable adventures) and I decided that there simply weren’t enough affordable options to keep our wardrobes fresh – so we launched our very own ramshackle store.

After reading an article in the Straight about an ‘affordable’ Vancouver retailer where you could rent pieces for 3 days or buy them outright and not agreeing that it was A) affordable, or B) anything at all like my girlfriends’ closet, we decided we’d give people what we ourselves wanted: a thrift store where you can buy outright, or receive a voucher for your donations and essentially ‘trade’ your quality, gently used clothing for new pieces.

The name of the store is yet to be determined, and we’ll be working out a more efficient payment method and cleaner visual displays of the current stock, but we were so excited about this project that we had to get it up right away.  Any and all feedback you might have would be greatly appreciated.  There are a few pieces in the new store right now, but we literally have piles of clothes to photograph and publish, so stay tuned!

Thrifty Shopping Tips

I never used to have any skill when it came to thrift shopping.  Eternally in a rush, I struggled to find the patience to sort through the racks, consider the potential of each item, and torture myself in the fitting room trying to force the pieces to look good when they simply didn’t.  I ended up with a closet full of clothes that I never wore – hence my love for clothing swaps.  Then suddenly I became a master second hand shopper, consistently scoring unique and well fitting pieces for dirt cheap.  I finally developed a successful system, and here it is:

Vancouver Thrift Store Scores

More great finds in Steveston thrift stores.  This was a power trip – I managed to hit up 2 stores within 30 minutes, and acquired a lamp, clutch, scarf, red silky tunic. and patterned dress for $12 total. Tunic and dress not shown; I have to take in the dress a bit beneath the armpits.

It took every ounce of energy in my being to not squeal with delight when I found this clutch.  Even better, the $3 price tag.  The scarf is a memento piece, decorated with landmarks in London, England. Super silky soft.

This was another amazing find. The shade is the same texture/material as an old red lamp I have which belonged to my grandmother. The two of them on either side of my couch nicely compliment the big painting by The Woodpile Collective which adorns on the wall between. A super steal at $3 – functional lightbulb included. FYI, that’s my knitting needle garden next to it.

Cariboo Round-Up

After a good long couple weeks in the South Cariboo, I have some wicked stories and photos to share.

We stopped in Clinton on the way up and I browsed through this little antique store, mostly filled with trinkets and furniture. They had these Frye-ish boots sitting on a stool, size 9. I don’t think I’ve snatched anything up so quickly! Made in Canada by a company I can’t quite decipher, they are in need of a little TLC but for $25 were a major bargain:

The weather was pretty scuzzy for the first week, so when my younger brother presented me with this bracelet he bought for me in Turkey that is meant to ward off bad spirits, I hoped it would also ward off my sagging, weather-induced mood. It, and the sunshine that appeared the next day, did just that:

Also during the week, I went to visit my alpaca fiber supplier for larry. They are so curious and friendly, and one of them, Mystery (pictured below) was like a puppy, loved attention and would nudge you if you stopped scratching his neck. He reminds me of E.T.:

Then finally, it was the long weekend, and the Interlakes Rodeo. We had gone last year and it was strangely sweet and reassuring to see many familiar faces in the beer garden! This year we went to the exclusive Rodeo Dance, and that was certainly memorable. My sister-in-law was eventually persuaded to dance with a toothless old cowboy, while I danced with a pseudo-cowboy from Vancouver. People were two-stepping circles around us, literally. A rodeo dance wouldn’t be complete without an all-out brawl…this fight, likely instigated over a young lady, ended up in a massive dogpile as the older cowboys tried to break it up. Even the band, Skidmarks (no joke), threatened to jump in – there were some swollen and bloody faces as we made our exit in haste.

The rest of the time was spent playing cribbage, rock poker, reading, keeping warm by the fire, and being totally and utterly amazed by the abundance of stars that emerged at night.

Good times in the Cariboo!
